As the first leg of the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) Director’s visit to the DOST Regional Offices, Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena met with the Officials of DOST Regional Office No. VIII on 16 March 2022.

The visit was able to discuss the planned activities of the Institute to the regions particularly on the conduct of the DOST-TAPI Caravan and Stakeholders’ Forum: Bringing Science and Technology (S&T) Closer to the People in June 2022.

“We have realized that the provision of a venue to get the stakeholders together and discuss the pressing issues is essential in crafting our agenda for the years to come,” said DOST-TAPI Director Decena

The caravan, on the other hand, will bring local technologies and innovations developed by the Department’s Research and Development (R&D) Institutes, Sectoral Councils, and S&T Service Institutes to the regions for people to truly appreciate the benefits of utilizing research outputs.

The discussion has also led to tackle other issues and concerns, including an orientation on DOST-TAPI Rules and Regulations.

One of the issues presented is the noticeable yet very minimal unliquidated cash advance from DOST-TAPI which will be settled by DOST-VIII immediately.

“DOST-VIII is the first DOST Regional Office that we intended to visit as we would like the Eastern Visayas to become the host region of our upcoming events in the Visayas islands,” added DOST-TAPI Director Decena.

This has opened up the discussion on suggestions to better assist and collaborate with the DOST Regional Offices in the implementation of the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) and other DOST-TAPI major events, such as the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (RICE).

Together with DOST-TAPI Director Decena, the meeting was attended by Ms. Marilyn O. Radam, DOST-VIII Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations, Ms. Ma. Sheena K. Bala-oy, DOST-TAPI Accountant III, and Ms. Rodelia R. Padilla, DOST-TAPI Senior Science Research Specialist.

The next legs of the DOST-TAPI Director’s meeting with the DOST Regional Offices will commence in the following months with Zamboanga Peninsula, MIMAROPA, the National Capital Region, and the Cordillera Administrative Region in the pipeline.
