BAGUIO CITY - The very first conduct of the Invent School™ Program (ISP) of DOST- Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) for 2024 took place in Saint Louis University (SLU) Main Campus in Baguio City on January 26, 2024 and was  attended by more than fifty (50) 3rd year and 4th year students taking up Bachelor of Science in (BS) Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) and BS Mechatronics Engineering (MECE).

The ISP team, in collaboration with Erovoutika Electronics Robotics Automation, the Department of Science and Technology - Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) and the Provincial Science and Technology Office of Benguet (PSTO- Benguet) has made this event possible.

Discussions steered by Mr. Rizalniño Noble, Program Manager of ISP, together with Mr. Jomari Lasay, Science Research Specialist  II of the Invention  Development Division of DOST-TAPI,   focused on Invention Development, Prototyping, and giving awareness on Intellectual Property Rights and Basic Patent Search.  The lectures were also coupled with workshop activities, such as Identification of Nature-Inspired Inventions, Paper Plane Challenge, Identifying Trademarks (Popular Brands), and Prior Art Search using various Free Online Patent Search Engines, to further enhance the learning experiences and reinforce the topics discussed by the resource speakers.

The resource speakers also discussed other development programs to the student-participants and observers, especially the Concept Prototyping Program (CPP) and Intellectual Property Rights Assistance Program (IPRAP).  The other programs of assistance of DOST-TAPI were also mentioned, such as the Regional Contests and Exhibits (RICE) and the National Invention Contests and Exhibits (NICE) where the student-participants were encouraged to join.

DOST-TAPI’s ISP provides an opportunity for students in the Elementary, High School, and College levels to not only develop their creativity and potential but also to awaken their true ingenuity. Invent School serves as a starting ground for young Filipino inventors.
