BUTUAN CITY - In its efforts to boost its tech transfer initiatives, the Department of Science and Technology - CARAGA held an Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Process training at Almont Hotel and Inland Resort, Butuan City on March 23-24, 2023.

The Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) staff served as the resource speakers for the program.

The two-day training was facilitated by Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, DOST-TAPI Director, and Supervising Science Research Specialists, Pierre Sonia Dela Corte and Anna Liza Saet.

On the first day of the training, the resource speakers discussed the amended Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) and DOST IP policy, technology transfer protocols of the Regional Research and Development Information System (RDIS), technology transfer and commercialization in DOST.

In addition, guidelines on fairness opinion report and written recommendations, and intellectual property management protocol of DOST government funding agencies were tackled on the first day of the training. 

On the other hand, the second day of the training focused on the policy on governing contract research applicability, basics of intellectual property, intellectual property information search, freedom to operate in relation to intellectual property, technology valuation, and 2023 venture financing guidelines.

The capacitation of DOST CARAGA on tech transfer and intellectual property is in line with its role as the Fairness Opinion Board receiving office, which requires the agency to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to facilitate the transfer of technologies from DOST-funded research and development projects to industry partners.

The training program is expected to enhance the capacity of DOST CARAGA in handling tech transfer and intellectual property matters, thus enabling the agency to further promote innovation and development in the CARAGA Region.
